Are you about to start your student life in Antwerp? Our experienced student guide, Ilham, explains why you should join us on a Walkabout!
Where are we going?
“The exact route is still a surprise. We’ll start at GATE15, the city’s go-to student hub. We’ll wander through the University District but also head towards Eilandje and the center. That way, you’ll discover there are loads of great spots within walking distance of your campus.”
What tips and tricks can I pick up?
“We’ll pass by some of Antwerp’s most beautiful views, with a few ideal picnic spots along the way. We’ll show you great places to go out and tell you where you can get student discounts.
Of course, every guide has their own hotspots, so the tips vary.”
So I just have to tag along and listen?
“Not at all! Feel free to ask any questions you like. Last year, we often had enthusiastic groups who gave lots of feedback and asked plenty of questions. Although I can’t promise I know everything. For example, an international student asked me last year why so many people in Belgium remain unmarried. I had to think about that one for a moment.”
Why should I join?
“The guides are studying in the city themselves, so they know which tips are useful for new students. You’ll discover Antwerp from a student’s perspective, not as a tourist or a local.
It’s also a great opportunity to get to know other students. I heard that some participants went for a drink after the Walkabout last year.”
