Silent study spaces

We see, feel and hear that you – student in Antwerp – need a quiet space to study or take an online exam.

Studying in times of Corona is difficult for every student. But for some, it’s even harder because of their social and/or material situation. Therefore, every educational institution has made a few spots available on campus, reserved for students who aren’t able to study in a quiet environment at home.

On top of this, the City of Antwerp and STAN have worked together to find a couple of locations in the city that are sharing spaces where students in need are welcome: the Silent Study Spaces.

Because of the precautionary measures, the number of spots are limited. That’s why the available spots will be reserved for students who don’t have a suitable place to study. Both STAN as the educational institutions have their own criteria to assess if a student is eligible and their own method to sign up for a Silent Study Space. You can find our contact details and those of each educational institution down below in the FAQ. After STAN or your educational institution has examined your application, you will receive a valid code to reserve a Silent Study Space.

Note: without a valid code, it is not possible to reserve a Silent Study

There are two types of study spaces available:

  • Private silent study space: a place just for you where you can quietly study or take a verbal/online exam.
  • Silent study space: a space you share with multiple students, keeping social distancing in mind, so you can study safely and quietly.

These study spaces can be reserved from June 2 until July 2. The opening hours and period can differ per location, so make sure to check which locations have a spot available at a certain time.

Participation conditions

  • Because of the precautionary measures, the number of spots are limited. That’s why the available spots will be reserved for students who don’t have a suitable place to study. Both STAN as the educational institutions have their own criteriato assess if a student is eligible and their own method to sign up for a Silent Study Space. If a student is eligible, he or she will receive a code which can be used to start the reservation. You can find our contact details and those of each educational institution down below in the FAQ.
  • Note: without a valid code, it is not possible to reserve a Silent Study Space.
  • There’s a maximum of 2 days you can reserve per week. This way we make sure every student gets a chance.

Precautionary measures

You and your fellow students’ health are our top priority, so please keep the following precautions in mind:

  • Don’t forget your face mask and make sure to wear it upon entering and leaving the Silent Study Space. You’re allowed to take off your mask while studying.
  • Keep your distance upon entering and leaving the study space.
  • Don’t forget to wash your hands plenty of times, and make use of the hand sanitizer provided at the study location.
  • Disinfect your workspace when you leave. This way the space stays clean for the student who comes in after you.
  • Bring your own bottle of water as we don’t provide this at the location.

Either you have filled in an unvalid code or you have exceeded the maximum of 2 reservations per week. In both cases, we are forced to cancel your complete reservation. Apply the right way to receive a valid code or try to make a new reservation with the maximum of 2 days a week.

Yes please, let us know asap if you can’t make it. This way we can make other students happy with the Silent Study Space that would be unused otherwise.

No. It should be clear that students, even in a room with more students, are always obliged to study on their own. The Silent Study Spaces are meant to be for students who want to study in a quiet space, respect that! Keep your distance at all times, to guarantee everyone’s safety.

Still a question?

Do you still have a question that has not been answered yet or do you have problems making a reservation? Please contact STAN through mail.
